Anurag Kashyap is back in the news after making remarks that cause waves in the already turbulent Internet sea. The filmmaker has been in the headlines for the past few weeks due to his comments regarding movies and his viewpoint on the current fashion. The director has chosen to talk about how Indian films have stopped being innovative as he prepares for the debut of his newest feature, Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat.

Kashyap has advocated strongly for spreading Indian cinema to as many countries as possible. Even more recently, the filmmaker expressed his concern that the west will take Rajamouli away from us.

Anurag Kashyap reportedly told Hindustan Times, “They have enjoyed Indian movies for a very long time. But they favour a specific genre of movie. There was a period when Indian movies were broadcast globally. Disco dancer, Awara, and everyone singing Jimmy Jimmy. If you travel to Africa or the Arab world, India will have a significant influence on global culture. We lost our originality somewhere in our mainstream. Cheap imitations of Hollywood action movies or other popular culture started to appear in our mainstream.

While movies from the South are still grounded, Anurag Kashyap continued, “they still look like Indian cinema. Many popular Hindi films don’t look like Indian movies and aren’t even made in India.which is why RRR surprises them and scores. RRR takes them totally by surprise. Within the context of an Indian film, it does those very things at a much lower cost than them.”
