For the third year in a row, Alka Yagnik is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records. She outperformed even the biggest artists in the world, including Taylor Swift, Drake, and Beyonce, in terms of streaming. She has more streams than anyone else by legions. The songs of Alka have received 15.3 billion streams, or an average of 42 million streams per day, according to a publication in the Guiness Book of World Records. She also accomplished this feat in the previous two years. In 2021, she had 17 billion streams, and in 2020, 16.6 billion.
With 14.7 billion streams, Bad Bunny is second on the list after her. The last three singers are all from India: Mr. Udit Narayan (10.8 billion),Arijit Singh (10.7 billion) and Kumar Sanu (9.09 billion).
Given that not even billionaire performers have been able to record such numbers, the list should come as a surprise. In the top ten were BTS (7.95 billion) and BLACKPINK (7.03 billion), while The Weeknd (5.7 billion) came in at number thirteen, Taylor Swift (4.33 billion) at number twenty-six, and Drake (2.9 billion) at number fifty.
In the 1990s, Alka was a prominent Bollywood playback singer with hundreds of songs to her name. She performed playback singing for celebrities like Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, and Juhi Chawla. Her most popular songs are Pardesi Pardesi, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Gazab Ka Hai Din, and Taal Se Taal Mila.
Playback singing is not as simple as it sounds, Alka had previously stated in an interview with Hindustan Times. You are singing for a character, so your song shouldn’t hinder the actor’s ability to express their emotions. A playback singer finds it difficult to adjust to each composer’s unique approach. But after you’ve done that, there is nothing that can equal to the joy of hearing from a composer that your singing fits their styles perfectly.
