Shivam Dube, who has been out of T20 action since July 2024, made a stylish return to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai. Dube smashed the bowlers all around the park with a strike rate of over 191, which included seven sixes.
Dube came in to bat when Mumbai’s total was 60/3 against Services in Hyderabad, with India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav batting on 15 at the other end. The pair stitched a partnership of 130 runs in 11 overs, with Dube taking charge and scoring 71 runs. Surya also scored 70 runs, but it was Dube’s 71 off 35 balls that made the most noise.
In his debut season for CSK, Dube accumulated 289 runs at a strike rate of 156.21. He followed it up with 418 runs at 158.33 in 2023 and 396 runs at 162.30 in 2024, which secured him a spot in the India T20I team that went on to win the T20 World Cup 2024.
Although Dube didn’t make much of an impact in the T20 World Cup 2024, the management backed him, giving him another opportunity against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Against Zimbabwe, he got the chance to bat only once, scoring 26 runs off two overs with a strike rate of 212. He received another opportunity in the Sri Lanka series, where he scored 13 runs off 14 balls, after which Dube was out of T20 action.
Shivam Dube was retained by the Chennai Super Kings for ₹12 crore and looks to back himself and improve his game under India’s former finisher MS Dhoni.
