Everything Everywhere All at Once wins Best Picture at the Critics’ Choice Awards

On Sunday night, the 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards were presented, and Everything Everywhere All at Once by A24 took home best picture, one of the night’s four honours.

For Everything Everywhere All at Once, Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), a filmmaking team, also received awards for best original script and best director. accepting the trophy for the latter category, where they bested seasoned filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Baz Luhrmann, and James Cameron. It’s not a mistake, Scheinert stated as Kwan held up the envelope to reveal their names to the crowd.

“Thank you to all the storytellers and filmmakers that inspired me to become a filmmaker – you’re in the same category as me,” remarked Scheinert to his fellow nominees. That is repulsive! Hello?! But it means a lot that you inspired me. And your films have altered my course in life. Kwan expressed gratitude to his mother, who he claims served as the model for Michelle Yeoh’s character Evelyn Wang in the movie. She was the first to give me the idea that I could become a director, claimed Kwan. She may be the first mother of Asian American immigrant descent to ever advise her kid to attend film school.
