Jaguars’ Travis Hunter has surgery, to miss rest of season

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair the LCL in his right knee.

The Jaguars said the procedure, performed in Dallas, showed no additional damage beyond his LCL.

Hunter is expected to return to full football activities within six months, the team said.

He was put on injured reserve after suffering the noncontact injury while doing defensive drills in practice on Oct. 30.

The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner has 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he has 15 tackles and three pass breakups. In the games in which he appeared, Hunter had played 67% of the team’s offensive snaps and 36% of the defensive snaps.

Hunter was moving into the role as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver, partly because of his skills and playmaking ability but also because of Brian Thomas Jr.’s struggles.

The Jaguars (5-4), after blowing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead in a loss to Houston last week, next host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

ESPN’s Michael DiRocco contributed to this report.
