India’s shooters continued to make their mark on the global stage, claiming one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the ISSF World Championships on Saturday. However, a 10.0 on her 19th shot saw her slip to third, and a 9.9 on her 22nd shot cost her momentum. She eventually settled for bronze with a score of 232.0, behind South Korea’s Ban Hyojin (255.0) and China’s Wang Zifei (254.0).The Indian women’s team of Elavenil, Meghana Sajjanar and Shreya Agrawal also clinched the bronze medal with a combined qualification score of 1893.3, following China (1901.7) and South Korea (1899.9). Elavenil’s individual score of 633.4 placed her fifth in qualification, while Meghana and Shreya finished 17th and 33rd respectively.In the men’s 50m free pistol event, 29-year-old Naik Subedar Ravinder Singh, from Bishnah, Jammu & Kashmir, fired his way to a career-best gold with a total of 569 points. His consistent shooting — rounds of 93, 98, 94, 95, 93 and 96 — helped him finish comfortably ahead of South Korea’s Kim Cheongyong (556) and AIN’s Anton Aristarkhov (556).Ravinder, who won a bronze at last year’s Worlds in Baku, also helped India secure a team silver with Kamaljeet (540) and Yogesh Kumar (537), totalling 1646 — just two points behind South Korea’s 1648.
