Mike Boynton – NCAA owes OK Environment apology for postseason stop

Mike Boynton — whose Oklahoma State crew was once forbidden from the 2022 NCAA event for its connection to the FBI’s 2017 investigation into faculty basketball corruption — stated the NCAA owes his program an apology, next Kansas ultimate age become the unedited faculty to steer clear of main consequences stemming from the scandal.

Within the ultimate case that will probably be made up our minds via the Separate Responsibility Solution Procedure — outlined at the IARP website as “an independent process that reviews and determines whether there are violations of NCAA Bylaws in select, complex infractions cases in NCAA Division I athletics” — the panel dominated that the Jayhawks males’s basketball program and schoolteacher Invoice Self won’t face any additional serious punishment.

The IARP didn’t factor any postseason bans or important consequences within the instances it adjudicated for LSU, Louisville, Arizona and NC State, all faculties that had been fix to the FBI’s investigation.

Oklahoma Environment selected to paintings with the NCAA over the IARP in its case.

“My message was always, with what they are saying now, is that they did the wrong thing to us,” Boynton instructed ESPN at Large 12 media pace on Wednesday. “My only issue at this point is I still haven’t heard anybody call and say, ‘You know what? We screwed up.’ Accountability is a big deal to me. It’s something I preach in our program every day.

“If anyone would name and simply say, ‘You recognize what, Trainer? I am getting it. We did the mistaken factor. That shouldn’t have took place. We will be able to’t trade it however I need you to a minimum of know we recognize that.’ As a result of that’s all that may be accomplished at this level.”

Last year, Kansas self-imposed a four-game suspension on Self, who was initially charged with a Level I violation. The IARP process reduced the infraction to a Level III violation.

Oklahoma State was banned from the 2022 men’s basketball tournament by the NCAA as punishment for former head coach Lamont Evans’ role in the FBI bribery investigation. Evans’ infractions unfolded before Boynton was hired.

During the 2021-22 season, Oklahoma State finished 15-15 (8-10 Big 12). The Cowboys were fourth in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency that season.

Even though his team faced a severe penalty, Boynton said he does not want other schools to incur additional punishments.

“I don’t need Kansas to be extra seriously punished,” he said. “I don’t assume the children on their crew need to be forbidden from the postseason, both. They didn’t have anything else to do with what took place sooner than, both. Neither did the children at LSU or Arizona. However none of them were [banned from the postseason]. We had been. That was once the hideous section.”
