Dynamo explains why Hydra Esports shut down its bootcamp
. In a recent livestream, a viewer asked Dynamo about the organization’s bootcamp as the organization’s content creators were not seen streaming from there. Responding to this, Dynamo revealed that the organization shut its bootcamp down a long time ago. “The thing about the bootcamp is that we have shut it down. We shut the bootcamp down a long time ago. It’s been five or six months since we shut the bootcamp down,” he said.
According to Dynamo, the primary reason for shutting down the bootcamp was that he had to bear a lot of workload. “The reason behind shutting down the bootcamp is all the load was on me, to be honest. A lot of creators were working, and a lot of creators were not working; a lot of them were being lazy. A lot of creators were waking up at 3 or 4 in the afternoon. We could not allow that; I couldn’t take all those things,” he added.
In addition to issues with productivity, Dynamo also mentioned that the expense of running the bootcamp was a significant factor. “All the load was on me, plus the bootcamp expense was very huge. You know how big our bootcamp was. It was an 8-9 BHK (Bedroom, Hall, and Kitchen) villa; it was a huge villa. And its rent, imagine how much its rent was. It was a huge expense, plus the light (electricity) bill used to be expensive,” he explained.
Dynamo revealed that he had also built PCs for all the creators, implying that it was a huge expense as well. “Also, I built PCs for everyone; we built 10-11 PCs,” he said. “There are a lot of things behind this stuff. Running a bootcamp doesn’t mean you only have to bring in a few people and sit there,” he added.
He went on to compare running a bootcamp to “running an entire village, running an entire city,” emphasizing the significant amount of work and resources required to make it successful. “I am sure all the people who are running a bootcamp would agree that running a bootcamp is like, you know, running an entire village, running an entire city. It is a big thing,” he explained.
“You have to look after the groceries, food and take care of everyone’s health, from breakfast, from lunch, from snacks, from dinner to everything,” he noted. “If something is not hampered, then you have to look after it. We made all the arrangements.”
He explained running a bootcamp requires careful attention to detail and a willingness to handle a wide range of responsibilities. As Dynamo explained, the costs of running a bootcamp can be prohibitively high, with expenses ranging from rent to electricity to maintenance. In addition, the responsibility for managing all these elements fell on his shoulders, putting a tremendous amount of pressure. “So we thought of taking a break,” he added. “We made a collective decision to take a break and then work on getting back on track. And then we will think of bootcamp again if it is possible because there is only so much I can do.”
