Hollywood superstar Will Smith is allegedly planning to reprise his Genie role from the 2019 Disney musical fantasy film “Aladdin” in the sequel.
The forthcoming film’s script is currently being developed, and it will be based on the collection of Middle Eastern folktales known as “One Thousand and One Nights.” Although there are little details at this time, it is hoped that filming will start before the end of the year, according to aceshowbiz.com.
Would Smith’s return to acting following his contentious behaviour at the 2022 Academy Awards “would be one of the first movies Will has filmed since the Oscars slap and it is somewhat shocking, considering that it will be for a kids’ picture,” a purported Hollywood insider said.
He has put a lot of effort into improving himself, and it is generally agreed that by the time the film is out, everything will have passed.
The source commented, “The first movie was a big hit, so it would be stupid not to do another, and it would be a terrible pain to have to re-cast Will over what occurred.” Disney is eager to support him and accept him back into the fold, so.
Other cast members are allegedly keen to return for the second sequel, including Mena Massoud, who portrays Aladdin, and Naomi Scott, who plays Jasmine in the original film.
When asked about the status of the movie in December 2022, Massoud replied, “There was a shift with the authors, and they are working on a new screenplay. Fantastic if “Aladdin 2” happens. It must take place. It won’t be based on the cartoon version, he continued saying. This will be a brand-new, original narrative.
Guy Ritchie, who directed “Aladdin,” was also questioned about whether Smith may be invited to return for the follow-up despite speculations that Dwayne “The Rock” John might take over after the Oscars slap scandal. However, the director continues to like the “King Richard” actor and wants to keep him in the part.
Working with him was one of the most fantastic experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve never met a more nice man. I never saw anything except the perfect, giving guy,” the director raved about Smith. Will Smith was just the f***ing perfect gentleman, so I would have no problem casting him in anything.
After slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars last year over the latter’s remark about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, Smith has been gradually restoring the public’s confidence. He’s prohibited from attending the Academy Awards for 10 years despite his regrets.
