You’d all agree that Tom Holland is the sweetest neighbourhood Spider-Man we have. Although Andrew Garfield has the appearance and Tobey Maguire is the original, Tom is the genuine deal, hehe. Today, we offer you a flashback to the time when Tom Holland, a historian, criticised PM Narendra Modi in a tweet, and users of the microblogging website created the movement #BoycottSpiderMan even though the actor had nothing to do with it. For those of you who are unaware, Tom is a well-known author whose works include Dynasty, In the Shadow of the Sword, and Rubicon: The Triumph and the Tragedy of the Roman Republic. The historian posted on Twitter, saying,
I’m a major admirer of the modesty Modi demonstrated in renaming the biggest cricket stadium in the world after himself, the historian commented on Twitter.
Another paragraph that read, “Not always a good indicator for countries when leaders start playing that trick,” was added to Tom Holland’s tweet.
For obvious reasons, PM Narendra Modi supporters took offence to these tweets, and these are what sparked the #BoycottSpiderMan trend on the microblogging platform.
“I am confident that this is a conspiracy by DC, trying to undermine Marvel’s earnings from India,” a fan on Twitter remarked. The hashtag #BoycottSpiderman is already popular in India.
Later, as he was defending the movie on Twitter, writer Tom Holland remarked, “Oh dear – I seem to have killed possibilities for the next Spider-Man in India.”
In the following tweet, he stated, “My apologies to @SpiderManMovie. I ought to have had in mind that enormous power entails great responsibility. What do you think about people avoiding Tom Holland’s Spider-Man on the internet after Tom made fun of PM Narendra Modi on Twitter?
