The lengthy wait to watch Ajith and Vijay square off at the box office was finally over with the two major Kollywood releases for Pongal, Thunivu and Varisu. Both of these Kollywood actors’ performances were highly praised, and the films garnered generally negative reviews with praise for the lead actor’s work.
When it comes to the box office, Thunivu had the upper hand on the first day. However, following the festival day, Varisu overtook Thunivu and now has a significant lead in both Telugu and Hindi.
Overall, only Varisu has more than 30Cr+ lead from the Telugu and Hindi versions, and Varisu has more than 70Cr+ lead from the Tamil version. Vijay outperforms Ajith overall by more than 100 Crores. Both Thunivu and Varisu had successful opening weekends at the box office. Thunivu was the front-runner in Tamil Nadu due to a larger release and a strong opening day total of c 23Cr+. In the other side, Varisu brought in 20Cr+ on the first day.
The film Varisu faced backlash for its trailer, producer Dil Raju, and director Vamsi Paidipally’s remarks, but it triumphed in the end because to the audience’s appreciation of its tidy and family-friendly subject matter.
