“RRR is not a Bollywood film; it is a Telugu film from the south of India,” claims SS Rajamouli.

The team behind the Telugu film RRR, which also includes SA Rajamouli, Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan, hosted a special screening of the movie for Academy members at The Directors Guild of America Theatre earlier this month. Rajamouli addressed the media before the screening in a viral video from the session. In the video, he explains that RRR is a Telugu movie from southern India and not a Bollywood production.

With regard to the battle scenes and songs, Rajamouli said, “RRR is not a Bollywood picture; it is a Telugu film from the south of India, where I am from. However, I use the song to advance the plot rather than pausing the movie to give you a piece of music and dance. I merely employ those components to further the plot.

“At the conclusion of the movie, if you say I didn’t feel it for three hours, then I know I am a successful director,” he continued.

The Golden Globes 2023 and Critics Choice Awards both recognised RRR’s “Naatu Naatu” as Best Original Song. At the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards, the movie was named Best Foreign Language Film. The song has been selected for the Oscars’ Best Original Song shortlist for “Naatu Naatu” in 2023.

Along with Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn playing supporting roles, RRR stars Jr. NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles. The movie was released in March of last year and quickly became a hit.
