Since its Wednesday release in India and abroad, Shah Rukh Khan’s action-packed spy thriller Pathaan has been shattering records for a Hindi film. Khan is back, and he’s back in a major way. This brings an end to SRK’s protracted absence from leading roles in major motion pictures and helps Bollywood, which has recently struggled.

The Yash Raj Films production has made 313 crore ($39M) worldwide as of this Friday. With more movies expected to be added today and tomorrow, that makes it the biggest opening weekend for a Bollywood film ever globally. It is anticipated to gross approximately $40 million in India by Sunday and more than $65 million worldwide, making it one of the best beginnings for an Indian film.

Pathaan, according to Yash Raj, has also broken other milestones. It is the first Hindi movie to earn more than 300 crore gross at the premiere session and the fastest Hindi movie to reach 300 crore (36.8M) worldwide.

Pathaan earned 39.25 crore net/47 crore gross ($4.8M/$5.77M) on Friday; however, Indian box office data is not centralised, so this can be confusing. Its Friday international box office took in $5.3 million, bringing the overall total to $13.7 million.

“It is remarkable that Pathaan has scored the largest all-time opening in India and abroad,” Yash Raj Films CEO Akshaye Widhani stated. Indians all over the world have praised Pathaan, and what is happening with this movie is unusual and historic.

In the movie, in which Deepika Padukone and John Abraham also appear, SRK plays the titular spy who battles the boss of a band of mercenaries who have sinister plans to attack his country.

Pathaan was the highest Day 1 ever for a Hindi movie in India when it debuted on Wednesday, grossing Rs. 57 crore ($7M) on a non-holiday. This gave SRK and Abraham their largest domestic (as well as international) debuts, and it was Padukone who had the highest first-day Indian gross ever. In India and internationally, it was a huge success for Yash Raj and the director Siddharth Anand. Additionally, on Wednesday, IMAX had its best opening day ever for an Indian movie.

Pathaan, a film from producer Aditya Chopra’s ambitious spy universe, had the greatest opening day of any Indian movie outside of India in the UK.

The overall worldwide box office as of Day 2, Thursday (Republic Day in India), increased to 219.6 crore ($27M).In India, Pathaan became the first Hindi movie to earn more than 70 crore net ($8.6M) in a single day on Thursday.
