After losing to New Zealand by 103 runs in the Super Six stage match on Tuesday, Pakistan’s run in the inaugural ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup came to an end.
Pakistan struggled to reach their target of 179 runs, managing only 75 runs after 20 overs while losing seven wickets in the process.
Warda Yousaf, skipper Syed Aroob Shah, and Laiba Nasir all failed to reach double digits while opener Eyman Fatima, who had been outstanding throughout the tournament, and her partner Shawaal Zulfiqar were dismissed for ducks.
Tash Wakelin finished off Aliza Khan after she had scored 11 off of 26 and before Pakistan’s greatest batter, Areesha Noor, left for 24 off of 39. On 11, Anosha Nasir continued to go undefeated.
Anoosha took three wickets with the ball for 32 runs, bringing her tournament total of wickets to 10 in five games. In the penultimate over of the innings, she removed Georgia Plimmer (53) and Paige Loggenberg (0) after she broke the quick-fire opening partnership of Emma McLeod (32) and Anna Browning (31), who contributed 47 runs in 29 balls.
In addition to bowling a tight spell, Aroob outfoxed Wakelin (8) with a googly that rocked the stumps while allowing just 22 runs in her four overs.
As they quickly reached 178-7, New Zealand’s aggressive stroke play produced a total of 19 fours and two sixes. Plimmer was her team’s top hitter, continuing their quick start from the openers with a 38-ball 53 that included five fours.
The two teams from Super Six Group 2 moving on to the semi-finals are New Zealand and England.
