Nikhil Chinapa queries the significance of Vivek Agnihotri’s celebration of The Kashmir Files’ Oscars ‘contender’ position.

On Twitter, Nikhil Chinapa questioned director Vivek Agnihotri on the likelihood that his movie The Kashmir Files will win an Oscar. The director posted a poster for the movie on Tuesday with the headline “Official Contender From India.” This Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) released the whole list of the 301 movies that were up for this year’s Oscars. The list includes a few movies from India. RRR, Last Film Show (Chhello Show), All That Breathes, and The Elephant Whisperers are the four Indian movies that have been formally shortlisted and are competing in their respective categories.

A former VJ named Nikhil tweeted Vivek, “What is an official “contender”?” after he posted a poster for The Kashmir Files that featured the Oscars logo. Vivek had earlier on Tuesday said, “We are grateful for your support, love, and blessings. #Oscars2023, the year of Indian cinema.” The banner further stated that the movie was a “Official Contender From India.”

Others questioned Vivek’s celebration of the eligible list alone. The difference between a “official contender” and a “official entry” contains the entirety of the truth, according to someone. “Why did you write the word “contender” in small font and Oscars in bold? In order to prevent people from realising it didn’t reach the shortlist, “another enquired. “Contenders may be numerous; is this a feat?”
