The cast of the Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black,” featuring Marisa Abela as the Grammy-winning singer who passed away in 2011 at the age of 27, has expanded to include Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville.According to Deadline, StudioCanal, Focus Features, and Monumental Pictures have hired Sam Taylor-Johnson to helm the movie.
Blake Fielder-Civil, Winehouse’s lifelong companion, will be portrayed by Jack. The two would eventually split before Winehouse passed away following a turbulent marriage that was marked by drugs and alcohol and resulted in stays in rehab.
According to “Deadline,” Manville will represent Winehouse’s maternal grandmother and Marsan will play her father. With more than 30 million CDs sold worldwide and more than 80 million monthly streams, Winehouse is regarded as one of the finest artists in recent memory.
She rose to fame with her 2006 album “Back to Black,” which also brought her a (at the time) record-breaking five Grammy Awards, including those for Record of the Year and Song of the Year for the popular track “Rehab.” The movie will centre on Amy’s brilliance, originality, and honesty, which permeated everything she did.
