If movies aren’t your enjoyment, what should you do? Why the “Boycott Bollywood” campaign won’t succeed, according to Kareena Kapoor Khan

Kareena Kapoor, a Bollywood star, has commented on the internet movement to “boycott Bollywood,” which has been trending often. The star stated that she disagrees with the current trend of calling for a boycott of movies and “cancel culture” since it would take away the “fun and pleasure” from one’s life while speaking at the Indian Chamber of Commerce-Young Leaders Forum event on Sunday in Kolkata. Notably, the movement first gathered pace after actor Sushant Singh Rajput passed away in June 2020, igniting discussion over the industry’s nepotism and the gate-keeping mindset of large production organisations. In recent months, the “boycott Bollywood movement” had an impact on the films “Laal Singh Singh Chaddha” starring Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan, “Raksha Bandhan” starring Akshay Kumar, and “Brahmastra” starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” is the most recent movie to experience this boycott trend due to the song Besharam Rang. In response to demands for a boycott of this impending film, Kareena Kapoor made her comments.

The actor stated, “I don’t agree with it (the boycott movement) at all. I think that the only way a person can get joy in life is to watch Bollywood movies. How will we amuse ourselves, how will you have the fun and enjoyment in your life that I believe everyone deserves and that cinema and films are offering, as we usually do, and as films have always done, if that (a boycott of movies) occurs? What would happen to entertainment if there were no films? Agar films nahi hogi toh entertainment kaisa hoga actor Laal Singh Chadda said.

Kareena Kapoor has already addressed the boycott movement in Bollywood. Prior to this, she had begged viewers not to boycott the film Laal Singh Chaddha, in which she co-starred with Aamir Khan.

But the truth is that they shouldn’t boycott this movie since it’s so gorgeous. Moreover, I desire for people to see Aamir and I on screen. We’ve waited so long—three years, to be exact. So, please refrain from boycotting this movie since doing so is equivalent to boycotting quality cinema. And so many people worked so hard on it; 250 people worked on the movie for two and a half years, according to Kareena Kapoor Khan.

It is noteworthy that Kareena Kapoor made these comments following the dreadful performance of Laal Singh Chaddha at the box office, which sparked widespread calls for the film to be boycotted. In reference to comments she made in 2020 indicating that individuals who don’t want to watch films should not watch since nobody is attempting to persuade them, a number of social media users pointed out Kareena Kapoor Khan’s U-turn. When the nepotism question first arose in 2020, Kareena Kapoor said that it was their fans who had made them famous and that nobody was pressuring people to attend see movies. She had remarked, “The audience formed us; no one else did. The same individuals making accusations are the ones who have produced these nepotistic celebrities.
