Gary Sinise Discusses the “Complicated Situation” of Gun Control and Being a Conservative in Hollywood

Gary Sinise

Gary Sinise is being transparent about how his political views have affected his Hollywood career.

On Friday’s episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, the actor, best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as Lt. Dan in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, spoke with Chris Wallace.

Sinise has been outspoken about his political beliefs, and in 2004 he even founded Friends of Abe, a collection of conservative Hollywood celebrities. The Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders actor laughed in response to the question of whether conservatives in the entertainment industry required a support network and said it was founded “during the early days of the Iraq War.”

“I believe that a great deal of it was inspired by…what happened to our Vietnam soldiers and the lack of care and treatment they received, and then we later regretted it,” he continued. “I didn’t want our veterans from the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars to be a victim of anything like that. I merely wanted to assist them by entering the situation. I then started looking for others who shared my viewpoints on that matter. I also discovered others in the film and television industry who enjoyed socialising.

Following his high school graduation in 1974, Sinise also established the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Highland Park, Illinois.

The same town saw a mass shooting on July 4, 2022, during an Independence Day parade. Wallace was informed by the actor that he had participated in the procession as a child and that he lived just a few blocks from where it occurred.

In response to questions on gun control, the actor, who has been outspoken about his support for the Second Amendment, stated, “We need different solutions, definitely. There isn’t just one answer to this major issue we are facing.

“I’m not the guy who can advise you on how to handle anything… I do know one thing, though: You can’t do away with guns. “Guns will never go away. The American tale has always included them. Now that it seems like we have such easy access to guns when we shouldn’t, what do we do? Or those who acquire firearms but shouldn’t? What are we to do? It’s a challenging circumstance. There isn’t just one answer, in my opinion.

He responded that he “had some fantastic opportunities” and “can’t complain about my acting career” when asked if he could have achieved greater success in Hollywood if he had concentrated on acting.

Sinise remarked, “I’ve had a blessed career in the film, television, and theatrical industries. It actually played a huge influence, if not the essential aspect, in what I’m doing today on the service side because “I’ve done incredible things, I’ve worked with amazing people.”

In 2011, the Apollo 13 actor established the Gary Sinise Foundation, which offers initiatives like Relief & Resiliency Outreach that support those in need as they recover from trauma, loss, or injury. The non-profit organisation also runs a project called RISE that builds smart homes for wounded American warriors.

A few projects I took because it kind of went right into what I was doing on the service side, Sinise said, “There were a few projects I took because it kind of fit right into what I was doing during my career. for instance On CSI: NY, I had completed nine seasons. I now had a weekly public platform on television. I’m portraying a character who was a veteran and a member of the 9/11 family in addition to being a police officer. That provided me the chance to publicly pay tribute to the firefighter and the men and women who died on September 11th.

Then, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders appeared. I took that action because it advances the mission, he said. “I can pick and choose very carefully depending on what life is about, and life is now so much more about giving back and attempting to help our veteran community and our first responder community,” the speaker said.
