Despite Avatar’s record-breaking box office triumph, James Cameron criticises streaming releases: “Enough already with the streaming!”

Even after several weeks since its premiere, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is still doing well at the box office throughout the world and is getting close to the $2 billion milestone. Within 12 days after its December 16 release, the movie had surpassed $1 billion in box office receipts. James Cameron, the film’s director, has since stated that he is not in the mood to consider the possibility of the movie getting a digital distribution so soon.

Avatar The Way of Water director James Cameron addressed the audience’s enthusiasm for going to the theatre to watch a movie on the big screen rather than moving in for a streaming date during an interview with Variety on the Golden Globes red carpet. Avatar The Way of Water was nominated for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director, but it lost both awards to Steven Spielberg’s The Fablemans. In the same interview, the filmmaker was reminded that the follow-up to his 2009 original has grown to become the seventh-highest grossing film of all time and is still going strong. The first Avatar and Titanic are only two of the top 10 most successful films ever that James Cameron has also helmed.
