SS Rajamouli’s RRR opened in theatres on March 25 and emerged as a blockbuster. It also impressed the international audience, with many calling it the ‘film of the year’. A section of the audience wanted it to be India’s official entry to the Oscars but that did not happen. Post this, the ace filmmaker submitted it for the Academy Awards in the “for your consideration” section. A popular magazine has predicted that RRR will be one of the five contenders for Oscar in the Visual Effects category.
SS Rajamouli is campaigning for RRR to get an Oscar nomination. He recently won Best Director at New York Film Critics Circle, which further boosted the film’s prospects. In the latest update, Variey has predicted that Srinivas Mohan will be one out of five nominees in the Visual Effects category for his work on RRR. According to the magazine, Top Gun 2, Avatar 2, Black Panther 2, and The Batman will be the other nominees in this category.

During a conversation with Pinkvilla at the 53rd IFFI in Goa, RRR writer Vijayendra Prasad stated that he was a little disappointed when the SS Rajamouli film wasn’t chosen as India’s official entry for Oscars 2023. While revealing his feelings on the film not making it as India’s entry for the best international feature film category at the 95th Academy Awards, Prasad said, “Yes, I was disappointed, but unfortunately, I can’t express my disappointment as I was affected by the decision.”
The SS Rajamouli directorial is in the patrician company on the international list. Notable among the titles that share space on the list with this film are Steven Spielberg‘s The Fabelmans at No. 15 (RRR is at No. 12), the much-acclaimed ‘Tar’ (about the downfall of the famous female conductor of a classical orchestra, Lydia Tar, played by Cate Blanchett) at No. 11, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ starring Colin Farrell (No. 8), jailed Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s ‘No Bears’ (No. 5), Park Chan-wook’s Cannes favourite, ‘Decision to Leave’ (No. 3), and the list topper ‘Hit the Road’, a film by debutant Panaha Panahi, son of Jafar.
