Qala Trailer : ‘Bulbul’ Has Turned Into Singer

The much awaited trailer of Babil Khan’s (Irfan Khan’s son) Bollywood debut Qala was released today. The trailer depicts a complicated tale of a young playback singer played by Tripti Dimri and her mother. Babil Khan plays the role of Jagan who brings a twist in the story.

The film marks the acting debut of the late film actor Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan. At an event, he had opened up about his debut, “One of my close friends has been an assistant to Anvita and even before I read the script, I wanted to do the film. I never had second thoughts about it and was ready to audition. It was the time baba had passed away and I was broken and vulnerable. When I reached Clean Slate Films, they made me feel so safe.”

In a previous statement, Anvitaa said, “Karnesh and I both felt it was an important story to tell. We set it in the world of music in the late 1930s; a setting both evocative and poignant. It has been an exciting and rewarding journey to bring this story to life with Netflix as our partners. This is my second outing with them and it has been twice as much fun to create a homegrown story for audiences worldwide.”

A day before the trailer release of Qala, Tripti penned a moving note to Babil’s character, Jagan. She shared a still from the film and wrote, “Dear Jagan, Your voice has the power to heal broken hearts and lift sunken spirits. No wonder why Mumma is always so starstruck by you… I aspire to be as good as you, I aspire to be YOU (sic).”

“Set in 1940s Kolkata, Qala chronicles the complicated relationship between a young singer and her mother. Will all her sacrifices be worth the success she gets?” reads the official synopsis of Qala. Written and directed by Anvitaa Dutt, the film has been produced by Karnesh Sharma under his banner Clean Slate Films. It also stars Amit Sial, Abhishek Banerjee among others. The film will be released on OTT on December 1.
