A teaser-cum-trailer announcement of Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film Cirkus was released by the makers on Monday morning. The film, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors, stars Ranveer Singh in a double role for the first time in his career. The teaser showcases Ranveer and the rest of the cast spelling out the USP of the film and why it’s good it is set in the ‘simple’ 1960s.
While the teaser does not showcase anything from the film, it has the entire cast sitting outside a circus talking to the audience. Sanjay Mishra and Johnny Lever welcome the viewers to the 60s, the ‘good old days’ when kids asked their grandparents their queries instead of Googling them, and when there was no breaking news. We then get a glimpse of Ranveer Singh–two of them–as they say Cirkus is a story of those times ‘when parents’ love was more important than social media likes’.
In an earlier exclusive report we had revealed that the makers are finalizing the date and that they have planned a massive trailer launch for the big budget commercial entertainer. A source had revealed to us saying, “The trailer will be out in the period of December 1 to December 3. The team is planning a grand launch for the trailer and there will be a big build-up leading to the trailer unveil. Like all Rohit Shetty films, the trailer launch will be followed by the launch of two big songs and finally a release on December 23.”
The source had also added that the marketing campaign for the film is being planned extensively where they will also put up hoardings across cities. “That aside, the trailer will be screened every single day at all multiplexes until the release of the film. It’s a masterstroke from Rohit and Ranveer too was mighty impressed with the marketing brain,” the source had further told us.
Cirkus also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Pooja Hegde, and Varun Sharma, who is also in a double role along with Ranveer. The rest of the cast includes Tiku Talsania, Vrajesh Hirjee, Ashwini Kalsekar, Murali Sharma, Vijay Patkar, Sulbha Arya, and Brajendra Kala. The film is set to release theatrically on December 24, on the occasion of Christmas Eve.
This isn’t the first time a Hindi film has been inspired by A Comedy of Errors. In the past, Sanjeev Kumar-starrer Angoor and Kishore Kumar’s Do Dooni Chaar have both adapted the play to Indian settings.
The film marks Ranveer and Rohit’s third collaboration, after ‘Simmba’ and Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Sooryavanshi’, where the 37-year-old actor had an extended cameo appearance. For Ranveer, a lot is riding on the success of this film as his last two projects, ’83’ and ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’, did not perform well at the box office. Ranveer also has Karan Johar directorial ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ in the pipeline. The film will also star Dharmendra, his ‘Gully Boy’ co-star Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
